2s

2-3 years old

Overview

In the 2s program, the children’s growing confidence and language abilities naturally lead to expressing clearer preferences for activities and styles of learning and play. Teachers in the 2s program begin to introduce provocations to the children designed to stimulate their thinking and encourage the children to approach familiar activities and materials in new ways. The children’s growing awareness of other children as partners in play and learning is supported through the introduction of age-appropriate meetings and small group times, which foster language development, problem solving, and collaboration.

Enrollment Options

Between ages 1 and 3, we offer 2, 3, or 5 day schedules (and the choice between half or full days), allowing families to find a rhythm that matches their child’s pace. During this stage of emerging independence and curiosity, children are ready to engage in a group setting while still needing a schedule that feels manageable and supportive.

Daily Schedule Elements

The 2s program is where we begin to develop a concrete flow to the day. Providing the students with a framework of familiar activities such as morning meetings and small group time bolsters their confidence and sense of security, giving them the freedom to make decisions and be guided by their interests as they play. A larger emphasis is placed on transition times, such as using the bathroom, washing hands, and preparing for meals, to promote self-sufficiency and establish a strong sense of ownership over their environment.
